$8M Worth of Illicit Cannabis Seized in Four Separate Enforcement Actions in B.C.
The Community Safety Unit says the raids targeted illegal cannabis production and sales, with officials estimating the seized plants and products at nearly $8 million.
- On Wednesday, the B.C. government announced that its Community Safety Unit conducted raids at four warehouses in Richmond, Vancouver, and Vernon since May, seizing cannabis products worth nearly $8 million.
- Prioritizing voluntary compliance, the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General stated the CSU takes "progressive enforcement action" against operators based on public safety and organized crime links.
- Assisting the CSU, the Vancouver Police Department and RCMP from Richmond and Vernon confiscated a "significant" amount of cannabis products, including plants, dried cannabis, and edibles.
- Operators selling or producing unregulated cannabis face administrative monetary penalties ranging from about $12,000 to more than $770,000, according to past enforcement records.
- While the CSU generally avoids enforcement on First Nations land, the Okanagan Valley has seen a proliferation of grey-market stores, drawing complaints from the legal industry.
