METROPOLITAN CITY OF VENICE, VENETO, JUL 22 – The 82nd Venice Film Festival competition includes 21 films with six directed by women and features high-profile world premieres from acclaimed filmmakers competing for the Golden Lion.
- On Wednesday, Alberto Barbera unveiled the Venice Film Festival lineup, which runs from August 27 through September 6 on the Lido.
- In Competition, world premieres from Guillermo del Toro, Kathryn Bigelow and others lead the slate, reinforcing Venice’s prestige as an Oscar launchpad and showcase for top directors.
- Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein features Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi and Mia Goth, with del Toro's adaptation competing for the Golden Lion.
- Julia Roberts will make her Venice debut as a red carpet honoree, while the festival will honor Werner Herzog and Kim Novak with Golden Lions, Barbera said.
