Venezuela's interim president Delcy Rodriguez to visit India next week for oil talks, says US's Marco Rubio
Rubio said the talks could expand U.S.-India energy ties and open opportunities for Venezuelan oil as India faces higher energy prices.
On Thursday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced he will visit India starting May 23 to expand energy cooperation, noting that Venezuela's acting President Delcy Rodriguez is also scheduled to visit India next week.
Rubio described India as a "great partner" amid discussions addressing rising energy prices caused by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which has strained global energy markets.
The United States intends to increase energy exports to New Delhi, with Rubio stating, "We want to sell them as much energy as they'll buy" to support India's energy portfolio.
On May 26, Rubio will participate in a Quad meeting with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu, and Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
The visit marks the first time a U.S. Secretary of State has traveled to Kolkata in nearly 14 years, underscoring deepening diplomatic engagement between the two nations.
