Las Vegas Is Down on Its Luck as Tourism Drops. Why It’s Kind of California’s Fault

CLARK COUNTY, NEVADA, AUG 5 – Visitor numbers dropped 11.3% in June 2025 with fewer Californians contributing to lower weekend hotel occupancy despite a 3.5% rise in gambling revenue, officials said.

Sin City is facing a summer swoon, and Californians — by far the largest tourist contingent, data show — are partially to blame.
