Vancouver police praise teen victim's family after Kane Carter murder sentencing
Vancouver police praised the family, investigators, and prosecutors for their persistence in seeking justice for Alfred Wong, a teenager killed by a stray bullet in 2018.
Kane Carter received concurrent lifetime jail sentences for second-degree murder in connection with Wong's death and is eligible for parole after 17 years.
Fifteen-Year-Old Alfred Wong died after being struck by a bullet during a gang shootout on a busy street in Vancouver while with his family.
Vancouver Police Inspector Mike Heard said Carter's life sentence was the best outcome and hopes it sends a strong message against violence.
