Vancouver Island SPCA centre urgently needs foster volunteers
The shelter says foster homes help shy and anxious animals relax and improve their chances of adoption.
- The Parksville-Qualicum Beach Community Animal Centre is seeking foster homes for dogs as it faces a shortage of temporary housing for animals awaiting adoption.
- Centre manager Janelle Hill explained that foster families are vital because "shelters have limited capacity," allowing the facility to create space for the most vulnerable animals.
- Living in a home environment helps shy or anxious animals relax and show their personalities, making them much more likely to thrive and find permanent adoption.
- Local foster volunteer Lin Snow recently cared for nervous cat Avon and found the experience rewarding; the BC SPCA provides all necessary supplies including food, toys and bedding.
- No previous experience is required to become a foster volunteer, and anyone interested can visit spca.bc.ca/foster to learn more or take a self-assessment quiz.
