New Zealand Study Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Ahead of T20 Series, Expect Home Conditions to Test Teen
Jacob Duffy says New Zealand have studied the 15-year-old and expect seam-friendly pitches to test his power-hitting.
- On Thursday, New Zealand faces India in the opening Twenty20 match at Christchurch's Hagley Oval. New Zealand paceman Jacob Duffy said the team has studied India's 15-year-old prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, expecting home conditions to challenge the young batter.
- Describing Sooryavanshi as an 'incredible talent,' Duffy noted the teenager has 'taken the IPL by storm.' The prodigy maintains a 250 strike rate, though seam-friendly New Zealand pitches present a different challenge than the batter faced in England.
- Duffy consulted Hagley Oval's head groundsman to ensure the wicket provides bounce, hoping to avoid a 'batter's paradise.' He said, "We've certainly had a good scouting session on him and got our plans as to what we want to do to him."
- The Twenty20 series marks the first phase of India's tour, which continues with one-day matches followed by a two-Test series. This structure provides essential preparation for both squads before longer formats begin.
- Winner of the 2025 Sir Richard Hadlee Medal, Duffy is eager to secure his Test spot ahead of New Zealand's upcoming four-Test tour of Australia. He said, "I've played four tests in my life. There's something special about them.
