Researchers used gravimeter measurements to map the vast ice reserves of rock-covered glaciers beneath Utah.

Beneath the seemingly bare and rocky slopes of Mount Timpanogos in Utah lies an impressive volume of ice. Scientists have determined that the glacier is about 83 percent ice and contains about 1.5 million cubic meters of frozen water, an amount equivalent to about 600 Olympic swimming pools.
