Usher says tour with Chris Brown is about more than 2 stars. He makes the case for R&B in stadiums
Usher says the 33-date run is meant to bring R&B fans together and help the genre reach stadium scale.
On Friday, Usher and Chris Brown launch their 48-date stadium tour in Denver, marking a massive North American collaboration between two of R&B's brightest stars.
Usher said the partnership fulfills a vision dating to Brown's earliest days in the business, when he mentored the rising artist and dreamed of sharing a stage together.
Both artists bring substantial commercial success: Usher's recent tour sold more than 1.1 million tickets, while Brown's 'Breezy Bowl XX' grossed nearly $300 million.
Addressing criticism regarding Brown's legal history, Usher told The Associated Press the singer's past controversies never factored into his decision, emphasizing the tour supports R&B fans.
Usher believes the collaboration signals a shift in touring strategy, saying there is "power in numbers" and predicting success will inspire other artists to pursue similar joint stadium projects.
