U.S. strikes 30 ISIS targets in Syria as it continues "relentless military pressure" on terrorist network
Operation Hawkeye Strike killed or captured over 50 ISIS fighters and destroyed 100 infrastructure targets in Syria, CENTCOM said.
- U.S. aircraft carried out ten strikes earlier this month, hitting more than 30 Islamic State positions between Feb. 3 and Feb. 12, CENTCOM said.
- Following the Palmyra ambush, U.S. officials said Operation Hawkeye Strike was launched in response to the attack that killed Sgt. William Nathaniel Howard and an interpreter.
- Operational data show sustained hits on ISIS infrastructure, with CENTCOM reporting more than 50 ISIS fighters killed or captured and over 100 infrastructure targets destroyed, while an earlier wave struck more than 70 targets.
- On Friday, U.S. forces completed the transfer of more than 5,700 ISIS detainees from Syria to Iraq, and Cooper said, `We appreciate Iraq's leadership and recognition that transferring the detainees is essential to regional security`.
- The Syrian Defense Ministry said Thursday it seized the Al‑Tanf base, while CENTCOM said pressure on ISIS has remained steady into the new year.
