US Kills, Captures 25 ISIS Operatives in Syria

U.S. and partner forces conducted 11 missions killing seven and capturing 18 ISIS fighters, destroying four weapons caches in a campaign following a deadly ambush, CENTCOM said.

  • U.S. Central Command said this month its forces killed or captured about 25 ISIS fighters in Syria through 11 missions from December 20 to 29.
  • After the December 13 killing, US forces launched strikes following an ISIL ambush that killed two US soldiers and a US civilian interpreter, ramping up operations in response.
  • On December 19, CENTCOM said the initial strikes hit 70 targets with more than 100 precision munitions using F-15E fighter jets, AH-64 Apache attack helicopters, KC-135 Stratotanker refueling aircraft, and M142 HIMARS across central Syria.
  • The missions destroyed four weapons caches, and CENTCOM commander Brad Cooper warned the US `will not relent` in targeting ISIL remnants.
  • CENTCOM is working with both the new Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces , Kurdish-led, while Syria officially joined the US-led coalition last month after President Ahmed al-Sharaa's White House visit.
