Rome Gears up for Holy Year's Monumental Catholic Youth Rally in Scorching Temperatures
METROPOLITAN CITY OF ROME, LAZIO, JUL 22 – The Jubilee of Youth will include 70 events and extensive security with 4,000 police and thousands of volunteers supporting 500,000 pilgrims from 146 countries, Archbishop Fisichella said.
- On July 28, Rome will host a jubilee event with over half a million young people from 146 countries, during the Vatican's Holy Year.
- In communion with past gatherings, the event forms part of the Vatican’s 2025 Holy Year, linking to Catholic tradition.
- To ensure safety and comfort, officials coordinated security with Spanish, French and Polish law enforcement agencies, and positioned 70 giant water cannons for cooling during the event.
- The program will feature `‘in communion with all of them, because it is for them above all that hope is offered today,’` while officials said the August 2-3 vigil with Pope Leo XIV highlights its spiritual importance.
- Meanwhile, expected heat will pressure Rome’s public services, with temperatures between 32C to 34C, heightening health and cooling challenges.
