NHC Decreases Development Chances for Tropical Wave in the Atlantic

BARBADOS, JUL 20 – The tropical wave has only a 10% chance of developing due to unfavorable atmospheric conditions, producing scattered showers as it nears Barbados midweek, forecasters said.

  • On Wednesday, July 23, the Barbados Meteorological Services said it is expected to approach Barbados between Wednesday and Thursday as a strong tropical wave, producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms and moving west-northwest at about 10 mph.
  • Despite the wave's persistence, environmental conditions appear only marginally conducive for development during the next day or so, while formation within 48 hours is low, near 10%, National Hurricane Center said.
  • The National Hurricane Center began tracking the system Friday night, and it has a 10% chance over seven days, NHC said.
  • Despite the approaching wave, no watches or warnings are in effect for Barbados at this time, and some rain would be beneficial amid dry conditions, the Met Office emphasised.
  • Looking at the bigger picture, and Colorado State University researchers said, the hurricane season 2025 runs from June 1 through Nov. 30, with a forecast for slightly fewer storms than earlier predictions.
