UN force in Lebanon says peacekeepers fired upon

UNIFIL peacekeepers in south Lebanon were fired upon three times by likely non-state armed groups amid escalating conflict causing over 830,000 displaced, Lebanese officials said.

UN peacekeepers said they were fired upon "likely by non-state armed groups" in south Lebanon, while a Hamas source said an Israeli strike killed an official from the Palestinian militant group.

In a statement, the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration condemned “in the strongest terms the shootings targeting the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) on Sunday, March 15, 2026, in three separate incidents, while it was conducting routine patrols near its bases in Yater, Deir Kifa and Qawiyah.”
