UN experts warned Tuesday that the U.S. decision to put an end to the funding of legal aid for unaccompanied minors involved in immigration proceedings implies a “serious violation” of children’s rights. Shortly after President Donald Trump’s return to power a year ago, the government ordered legal service associations to cease their activities and abolished the funding of lawyers representing unaccompanied children.
