- On Dec. 10, the Security Service of Ukraine detained a vessel from Russia's 'shadow fleet' in the Odesa commercial port that illegally transported grain from occupied Crimea.
- Records show the vessel repeatedly called at Sevastopol, Crimea, and in January 2021 carried nearly 7,000 tons of grain to North Africa.
- SBU investigators searched the vessel and found voyage plans, pilot cards, cartographic materials and radio communication logs showing illegal calls to occupied ports and evasion tactics by the shipowner sanctioned by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
- Ukrainian authorities opened criminal proceedings under four articles of the Criminal Code and arrested the vessel for transfer to ARMA, with the captain and 16 crew members onboard.
- Western partners have stepped up action against the shadow fleet, noting it uses flags of convenience and older, uninsured tankers, complicating sanctions enforcement.
