UKRAINE, AUG 3 – Ukraine sanctioned 94 captains and five companies linked to covert Russian oil transport to reduce revenues funding Russia's war, with coordinated actions from the EU and U.K.
- On Aug. 3, President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree imposing sanctions against 94 individuals and five legal entities, mainly targeting Russia’s 'shadow fleet' captains.
- Enabling sanctions legislation was signed on July 30 by Zelensky, allowing measures against Russia’s 'shadow fleet' vessels involved in covert transport schemes.
- Vladislav Vlasyuk said the package sanctions 94 captains allegedly bypassing the Russian oil price ceiling, including five companies like "Argo Tanker Group" and "Gazpromneft Shipping".
- Zelensky said, 'Sanctions have been imposed on the captains of Russia’s shadow fleet, and we will synchronize all of this — all of these packages — with our partners to ensure the pressure is effective across most jurisdictions,' as part of Ukraine’s broader strategy with two more packages planned.
- Meanwhile, the U.K. sanctioned 135 Russian oil tankers and two shipping companies linked to the shadow fleet.
