The US administration has been seeking to end the Russia-Ukraine war and has been holding talks with both sides since the second half of February. While the outcome of the talks remains unclear, the number of Ukrainian civilian casualties from Russian attacks has increased significantly since they began, according to a regular report by the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine.

The aggression launched by Russia against Ukraine continues with the same brutality and the same campaign of terror against the invaded citizens as before the Trump administration's emergence in a supposedly mediating role in the conflict. In this sense, one can only speak of an expectation that has so far been unmet, which casts a negative and discouraging light on the capacity of the United States' top leaders to understand the crisis.
