VodafoneThree said the UK faces the second-highest energy costs and seventh-ranked skills pipeline, slowing investment in faster mobile networks.
- In a global ranking of mobile network connectivity, the Mobile Market Index from VodafoneThree ranks Britain eighth, placing the nation behind Norway, Australia, Germany, and Hungary.
- High energy costs and restrictive planning regulations are hampering Britain's performance, while operators also face significant spectrum charges, intense market competition, and an emerging retirement gap among engineers.
- Britain placed seventh out of 10 for the skills pipeline necessary to facilitate deployment of sophisticated networks, complicating the industry's ability to maintain pace with international rivals.
- VodafoneThree is committing £11billion to achieve 99% 5G Standalone population coverage by 2030. Networks Director Andrea Dona stated the firm has "raised the bar" for connectivity since the merger.
- While VodafoneThree acknowledges progress has been achieved in recent years, the company urges the government to remove regulatory and planning barriers to support investment in mobile networks.
