UK, Nigeria Launch £15m Programme to Boost Economic Growth
The three-year programme will back reforms, small businesses and technology investment as the UK seeks to draw more private capital into Nigeria.
- On Friday, The British High Commission announced the launch of The UK-Nigeria Growth Programme, a £15 million initiative aimed at attracting private investment and supporting economic reforms over three years.
- As Nigeria seeks to diversify its economy and attract foreign capital, the programme reflects a shift toward investment-led growth beyond traditional development assistance. Minister Jenny Chapman discussed the initiative with Nigerian Minister of Finance Taiwo Oyedele.
- Governance reforms across five states will reduce regulatory barriers constraining investment in broadband infrastructure and digital services. The British High Commission expects the intervention to encourage greater private-sector participation in technology-driven investments.
- British International Investment has invested roughly $800 million in agriculture and manufacturing sectors, while financing valued at about $1 billion supports the rehabilitation and expansion of Lagos ports.
- During the visit, Jenny Chapman met with Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Jumoke Oduwole to review the Enhanced Trade and Investment Partnership. The British High Commission also announced expanded cooperation through the Digital Access Programme and SPRIRET initiative.
