UK Charity Probed Over Hamas Financing Links

- The Charity Commission launched a statutory inquiry yesterday into the Croydon-based Al-Khair Foundation to investigate alleged links to Hamas. Regulators are assessing whether trustees exercised adequate due diligence on partners and the use of funds.
- Following the July 31 arrest of Turkish national Mohammad Yousef Hasna, Counter Terror Policing London executed two search warrants at addresses in Croydon. Prosecutors allege Hasna conspired to funnel money and supplies to Hamas through a sham humanitarian organization.
- Hasna, 45, faces United States charges of conspiring to finance terrorism, with each count carrying a maximum 20-year prison sentence. The Al-Khair Foundation is subject to a legal order restricting certain financial transactions without Charity Commission consent.
- The Al-Khair Foundation stated it is "co-operating fully" with the inquiry and maintains that Hasna is not an employee but works with one of its global partners to deliver aid in Gaza.
- Reporting more than £74 million in income for the financial year ending July 31, 2025, the foundation's substantial revenue underscores the inquiry's significance. Regulators must determine whether trustees conducted proper due diligence on partners and charitable resource allocation.
