UK Authorities Arrest 4 People in Probe of Retail Cyberattack Spree
UNITED KINGDOM, JUL 15 – Four suspects aged 17 to 20 were arrested for cyberattacks on major UK retailers that caused operational disruptions and data breaches, according to the National Crime Agency.
- Four individuals were arrested on July 10 in the UK for suspected involvement in cyberattacks against Marks & Spencer, the Co-op, and Harrods.
- The arrests followed an investigation into an April cyberattack spree linked to the Scattered Spider group, known for using social engineering tactics and ransomware called DragonForce.
- The attacks disrupted Co-op payments and stock in May, forced M&S to shut systems on Easter Sunday, and caused Harrods to restrict internet access across its websites.
- Co-Op CEO Shirine Khoury-Haq expressed deep regret over the theft of customer names, addresses, and contact information, while confirming that no financial or transaction data was compromised.
- All four individuals arrested are currently released on bail as the National Crime Agency continues to prioritize the complex investigation in collaboration with UK and international partners.
