UK adventurer returns home after 28-year trek around the world
Bushby completed a 31,000-mile journey on foot and plans a documentary and speaking tour after years of delays from visas, war and the pandemic.
On Monday, adventurer Karl Bushby arrived in his hometown of Hull, completing his 50,000km 'Goliath Expedition' after 28 years, with crowds greeting the former paratrooper as he crossed the Humber Bridge.
Bushby began his trek in Chile 28 years ago, originally expecting the journey to last only 12 years, and has traversed 29 countries while pushing his cart, 'The Beast.'
The former paratrooper survived extreme conditions, including trekking the Darién Gap, walking the Bering Strait, and swimming 184 miles across the Caspian Sea, while enduring visa restrictions and the 2008 financial crash.
Feeling 'absolutely overwhelmed,' Bushby spoke to BBC Radio Humberside on Sunday, calling his cart 'The Beast' his 'Wilson,' and will be met by his mother, son, and granddaughter in Hull today.
Reflecting on his achievement, Bushby told ITV, ' feels good to have UK soil under my feet after all these years,' emphasizing that proving his own capability was the primary goal.
