Leaner Commonwealth Games generated £223 million in economic activity across Scotland, evaluation shows
The 11-day event drew 2,749 athletes and set 152 Games records while using existing venues and funding support from Victoria’s withdrawal.
An independent impact evaluation released on Monday confirmed the Games generated £233 million in economic activity across Scotland, with £158.6 million benefiting the Glasgow City Region.
Glasgow stepped in to host in October 2024 after Victoria withdrew, delivering the 11-day event under a budget of less than £160 million despite initial cost concerns.
Approximately one million people attended in person across the 11-day competition, while 510 million watched globally as 2,749 athletes from 74 Commonwealth nations competed in 10 sports and six para-sports.
"Our ambition was for a more sustainable games," Chief Executive Phil Batty said, emphasizing how existing infrastructure created a blueprint for future Commonwealth Games editions.
Team Scotland silver medallist Robyn Love noted the Games' significance for para-sport visibility, saying, "I hope the visibility that the Commonwealth Games gives, particularly to para sport, means others may find and benefit from sport earlier than I did.
