Ubisoft and Tencent Form Vantage Studios, a New Subsidiary Responsible for the Development of Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six
Vantage Studios, employing 2,300 staff, aims to revitalize Ubisoft's flagship franchises with greater developer autonomy following Tencent's $1.25 billion investment, part of Ubisoft's restructuring.
- This year, Ubisoft and Tencent created Vantage Studios to develop Assassin's Creed, Far Cry and Rainbow Six, unveiling the name on the studio's first day after an employee vote.
- Facing several high-profile failures, Ubisoft reorganised its largest IP under a new label after weaker sales, layoffs, studio closures and a 1.16 billion Tencent investment earlier this year.
- Staffing-Wise, Vantage pulls roughly 2,300 people from Montréal, Quebec, Sherbrooke, Saguenay, Sofia and Barcelona and will be led by co-CEOs Christophe Derennes and Charlie Guillemot, son of Yves Guillemot.
- A company statement says Vantage will give developers more hands-on control, with Vantage Studios taking on development and expansion while operating under a decentralised model, Ubisoft said.
- With Tencent taking a 25% stake, Vantage operates under advisory partnership terms, and Ubisoft said it is the first of several planned creative houses in a broader transformation.
