Uber was sentenced to pay $40 million to the parents of a 23-year-old woman who was fatally hit by a car after being abandoned drunk on a highway by her driver in 2023. The judge acknowledged the company's responsibility for the drama.
On the night of her death, 23-year-old Emily Normandin-Parker from the US booked an Uber ride for herself and a friend. Both were intoxicated and planning to return home after a night out. However, the trip ended in tragedy on the side of the highway. Uber was found jointly responsible for the tragedy and ordered to pay.
