UAE reports drone and missile attack as Iran war ceasefire is challenged

The UAE said its air defenses engaged two ballistic missiles and three drones, and three people were wounded as oil prices jumped above $100 a barrel.

  • On Friday, the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Defense reported that air defenses intercepted missile and drone attacks from Iran, hours after U.S. and Iranian forces traded fire in the Strait of Hormuz.
  • Although a ceasefire took effect on April 8, both sides have occasionally exchanged gunfire since the war began on February 28, with Iran effectively closing the Strait of Hormuz to pressure the global economy.
  • U.S. Central Command stated it "targeted Iranian military facilities" on Thursday night after intercepting attacks on three Navy ships, while Iran's Foreign Ministry described the strikes as a "clear violation" of the ceasefire.
  • President Donald Trump called the retaliatory U.S. strikes a "love tap" while insisting a deal could come "any day," as U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned Iran's control of the strait is "unacceptable."
  • Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated his country remains in "continuous contact" with Iran and the U.S. "day and night" to extend the ceasefire, while global oil prices jumped above $100 a barrel amid market concerns.
