Tyrone: Man killed in Cookstown road crash

  • On Friday a fatal collision on the Drum Road in Cookstown killed 20-year-old Pádraig McDonald from the Loughmacrory area, who passed away in hospital shortly after.
  • Chief Inspector Simpson said an initial collision between a silver Volkswagen Golf and a black Volkswagen Golf was followed minutes later by a black Vauxhall Corsa colliding with one of the cars.
  • A number of teenagers and passengers sustained injuries, with a boy in his late teens having life-changing injuries, a second boy in his late teens serious facial injuries, and five occupants of the silver Volkswagen Golf reporting injuries.
  • Begley offered condolences and praised emergency workers, saying the community was `heartbroken` and `in mourning` while sending thoughts and prayers to those injured.
  • The PSNI collision investigation unit is probing the crash and police said updates would be issued in due course.
