Two Brampton teens face second-degree murder and attempted murder charges after a drug-related shooting in Ginoogaming First Nation, officials said a state of emergency was re-declared.
- On Wednesday, Ontario Provincial Police charged two teenagers with second-degree murder and attempted murder after a shooting on Echum Drive in Ginoogaming First Nation left one dead and another injured.
- Nishnawbe Aski Nation alleged Thursday the shooting was drug-related and re-declared a state of emergency over the escalating crisis of illegal drugs and deaths in Ginoogaming.
- On Thursday afternoon, officers arrested two Brampton teenagers—18-year-old Quintin Hooper and a 15-year-old youth whose identity is withheld under the Youth Criminal Justice Act; both remain in custody pending court appearances at the Thunder Bay Courthouse, with a postmortem to be conducted in Toronto.
- The OPP issued a two-day shelter-in-place order closing local schools and advising Ginoogaming residents to stay indoors, with increased police presence expected as the search for two armed suspects continues.
- The OPP's northwest region crime unit is continuing the investigation with the Anishinabek Police Service, the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service, while a postmortem will be conducted in Toronto.
