Tehran invited senior BJP and Congress leaders, and India will send two officials as the burial events run from July 4 to July 9, sources said.
- On Wednesday, Iran extended invitations to Indian political leaders for the funeral of late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, with Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita and Bihar Governor Lieutenant General Ata Hasnain confirmed to represent India.
- The state funeral, originally scheduled for March but delayed due to the recent US-Israeli conflict, will commence on July 4 and run through July 9 across Tehran, Qom, and Mashhad.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi received an invitation from Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian but has prior travel commitments to Indonesia, Australia, and New Zealand from July 6 to 11.
- BJP National President Nitin Nabin, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and former External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid received invitations; Kharge has not yet decided whether to attend.
- Khamenei died on February 28 during the opening phase of the US-Israeli military campaign against Iran, while a strike on a Tehran compound also killed at least seven other senior leaders.
