Spain's new parental leave gives fathers one of Europe's most generous allowances

On Tuesday, the Council of Ministers adopted a royal decree-law extending the remuneration to 19 weeks, between birth and post-care benefits, for each parent and up to 32 for single-parent families.
The government will pass a new Royal Decree law on Tuesday in the Council of Ministers extending birth leave to 17 weeks and there will also be two more weeks of 100% paid parental leave for care up to 8 years of age of the children.The bill will be approved after Monday from Sumar announced that they had reached an agreement with the PSOE, both partners of the coalition government, to make it a reality.
The Council of Ministers also approves Tuesday the introduction of two paid weeks for childcare up to eight years and the extension of single-parent family leave from 26 to 32 weeks. Read
