CPS Charges Two Men After Southampton Disorder Following Henry Nowak Case
Police say 11 officers and a police dog were injured as prosecutors charged Matt Styler and Daniel Frost after the unrest.
Following violent protests in Southampton on Tuesday, the Crown Prosecution Service charged two men in connection with the disorder.
Public outrage followed Monday's sentencing of Vickrum Digwa to life for murdering 18-year-old Henry Nowak, after bodycam footage showed police arresting the dying victim following Digwa's false claims of a racist attack.
Hundreds descended on the city Tuesday, with clashes in the Portswood area injuring 11 police officers and a police dog during the unrest.
Styler and Frost are scheduled to appear at Southampton Magistrates Court today, Thursday, after the CPS established sufficient evidence and public interest in prosecution.
Southampton Itchen Labour MP Darren Paffey condemned the violence, stating, "Violence is not the answer," while The Independent Office for Police Conduct launched an investigation into the force's response.
