Two arrested as 'small explosive devices' made safe

Explosive Ordnance Disposal experts examined the items after police found small objects during a search and evacuated nearby homes as a precaution.

  • On Friday, Essex Police forced entry into a home in Brentwood and arrested a man and a woman following reports of a neighbour dispute at 07:20 GMT.
  • While searching the property, officers discovered items they claimed "required specialist assessment" from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, prompting a 100-metre cordon at Sawyers Grove.
  • A number of homes within the 100-metre cordon were evacuated as a precaution, and the top of Sawyers Hall Lane remains closed to the public.
  • Hopefield animal sanctuary directed visitors to access via Ongar Road and Highland Avenue, while locals walking by said "no one has any idea what is going on."
  • The situation remains ongoing as police will provide updates, with officers also cordoning off a pathway leading to Merrymeade Country Park.
