Turkey unveils first intercontinental ballistic missile at SAHA 2026 defence exhibition
ROKETSAN said the road-mobile missile is the largest TAYFUN variant, and the company has kept its range undisclosed as deliveries of earlier versions begin.
On Tuesday, the Turkish Ministry of Defense unveiled the Yildirimhan, an intercontinental ballistic missile with a reported range of 6,000km, at the SAHA 2026 expo in Istanbul.
ROKETSAN also displayed the TAYFUN Block 4 hypersonic ballistic missile, a 10-meter, 7.2-ton system capable of reaching speeds exceeding Mach 5, expanding Turkiye's domestic missile portfolio.
During the Tuesday ceremony, national manufacturer Roketsan unveiled four additional missiles, including the Cida anti-tank system and a mini cruise missile with a 250km range.
Defense analyst Ali Bakir of Qatar University said the ICBM adds a "crucial layer of deterrence" to Turkiye's arsenal, signaling readiness to defend sovereignty and interests.
Rocketsan CEO Murat Ikinci stated the company developed these systems using national resources to "strengthen our national defence and pave the way for a fully independent defence industry.
With a range of 6000 kilometres, the new Turkish rocket would extend far beyond the region. Ankara combines the program with the claim to military deterrence.
The missile, which can reach speeds of up to Mach 25 (about 8.5 kilometers per second), was developed by the Turkish Ministry of Defense's Research and Development Center.
