In Tunisia there have been protests against a state phosphate factory for days.
Tens of thousands of Tunisians protested in the city of Gabes on Tuesday against the government, which has been promising them for years to close an old phosphate fertilizer factory that pollutes the air and coastal waters of the Mediterranean Sea, and in recent weeks has caused a surge in cases of poisoning and respiratory problems due to its toxic emissions.
Protests in southeastern Tunisia show no sign of abating following the recent wave of gas poisonings from malfunctioning equipment at the Gabes plant of the Tunisian Chemical Group (GCT).
