Trump to shift focus to foreign policy after midterms to cement legacy: former U.S. ambassador
David Adelman, Managing Director at KraneShares and former U.S. Ambassador to Singapore under the Obama administration, says President Trump will seek to end his presidency by declaring victory in Iran. He adds that he does not "really see a way forward" in U.S.-China trade negotiations and believes it would be surprising for Trump to soften his stance or make significant concessions to Beijing during the final two years of his presidency.
Albert Cunha believes that the victory of the Democrats can hinder Trump's plans in the US. The president can therefore focus more on foreign policy, especially in the Middle East.
"There's a pattern where presidents, when their domestic policies aren't going well, focus on foreign policy, where they have more room to maneuver. So Trump will likely resort to foreign policy, with the same results as before, or even worse," says American studies scholar Dr. Piotr Tarczyński.
