Trump says U.S. is "getting a lot closer" to agreement with Iran
The latest proposal would reopen the Strait of Hormuz, unfreeze some Iranian assets and keep talks going as both sides review the draft, sources said.
On Saturday, President Trump told CBS News that negotiators for the United States and Iran are "getting a lot closer" to finalizing an agreement that would end the war between the two countries.
Trump described the current situation as a "solid 50/50," revealing he expects to make a final decision by Sunday on whether to resume bombing Iran or secure a deal.
Under a proposed 30-day outline, both nations would halt military action to negotiate a broader agreement; Trump is consulting with foreign leaders from Saudi Arabia and his team including Vice President JD Vance, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner.
From the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi, India, Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated there "may be news later today" regarding the status of the ongoing negotiations.
Trump warned that if a deal is not reached, "we're going to have a situation where no country will ever be hit as hard as they're about to be hit.
Both the US and Iran are optimistic after recent negotiations. According to President Trump, an agreement has been drawn a long way closer. He will continue to discuss it with his advisors today.
