Trump golf resort manager advising on reflecting pool project
David Schutzenhofer, who runs Trump’s Bedminster golf club, is helping recruit contractors despite having no engineering training, the Times reported.
David Schutzenhofer, general manager of Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, is advising on Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool renovations despite lacking professional engineering or architectural training.
For 20 years, Schutzenhofer has managed the New Jersey club and reportedly helped recruit Ohio-based contractor Greenwater Services, which received a $1.7 million contract last month.
The Interior Department claims Schutzenhofer is an unpaid volunteer and 'American patriot,' yet government employees in this role would be required to take ethics training and pledge to avoid conflicts of interest.
Current estimates place the renovation cost upward of $13.1 million, significantly higher than the $1.8 million price tag President Donald Trump originally promised for the historic site.
Structural leaks cause the pool to lose roughly 16 million gallons of water annually, and the restoration effort will be completed ahead of America's 250th celebrations.
