Democrats to probe lucrative Trump family business deals if they win midterms: Reuters
Democrats say subpoenas could target Trump family business deals, corporate donors and crypto firms as soon as February if they win control.
If Democrats win a majority in either the House or Senate in November, President Donald Trump's family business holdings could face immediate congressional scrutiny, potentially defining the second half of his term.
Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal and Democratic Representative Jamie Raskin are examining cryptocurrency ventures connected to Trump and 1789 Capital, a venture firm managed by Donald, following a $620 million Defense loan to Vulcan Elements.
Raskin also scrutinized Jared Kushner's private equity group, Affinity Partners, regarding Middle Eastern "oil monarchies and governments." Meanwhile, 1789 Capital wrote they have "no intention of being held hostage to political gamesmanship."
Democratic Senator Sheldon Whitehouse claimed energy sector firms received tax relief and subsidies after Trump requested $1 billion in campaign contributions during his 2024 campaign, creating another avenue for potential congressional inquiry.
Representatives Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries stated, "We're going to hold the crooks accountable, beginning on day one," while Blumenthal added that Senate Democrats would "use our subpoena power, absolutely" if they gain control.
