Nigeria’s military says troops rescued 92 people abducted by jihadi militants
Troops said surveillance detected the suspects moving civilians and vehicles into the bush before the rescue, and no casualties were recorded among the troops.
On Saturday, troops of the 135 Special Forces Battalion rescued 92 civilians kidnapped by suspected Boko Haram or Islamic State West Africa Province terrorists along the Buratai-Kamuya road in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.
Surveillance systems detected terrorists moving civilians into bush paths, prompting immediate deployment of a Quick Reaction Force and additional troops from the 27 Task Force Brigade to pursue the attackers.
Fleeing terrorists planted three explosives along the Bula Zarma-Mangari area to delay advancing forces, but the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team detonated all devices, enabling pursuit five kilometres beyond the area.
Security forces recovered all 92 kidnapped victims—comprising 52 males, 33 females, and 7 children—along with 8 vehicles, then escorted the group to Damaturu for welfare support and release.
The operation demonstrates Operation HADIN KAI surveillance capability and combat readiness, affirming that attempts to kidnap or intimidate civilians in the North East Theatre will face swift military force.
