Egg Thrown at Kunal Ghosh Outside Mamata Banerjee's Residence in Kolkata; He Alleges Police Inaction, BJP Link
A local youth claimed responsibility, and police later arrested five people as residents protested over local grievances.
On Monday, an egg was thrown at Trinamool Congress MLA Kunal Ghosh outside the Kalighat residence of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as he left a meeting. Ghosh termed the incident "unfortunate."
In recent weeks, demonstrations have surged against political figures across West Bengal, including MLA Madan Mitra and MP Abhishek Banerjee, which opposition parties cite as evidence of growing public dissatisfaction despite TMC claims of political motivation.
Five people were arrested following the attack, which Ghosh attributed to "two miscreants from the BJP." He stated police failed to intervene, adding, "This kind of incident cannot stop me."
Amid wider political shifts, 20 Lok Sabha MPs recently merged with the Nationalist Citizens Party of India, while Ghosh emphasized an oath to not abandon "Didi" when addressing questions regarding MLA Nayna Bandyopadhyay.
A local youth identified as Chandan claimed responsibility for the act, alleging the TMC has "done a lot of atrocities on people," though the party has issued no official statement regarding the incident.
