'Ian Will Forever Remain in Our Hearts': Family's Tribute to Man, 62, Who Died Trying to Save Kids in Sea
Hartlepool Borough Council launched a full review after the rescue attempt left a fundraiser above £11,000 and renewed calls for stronger beach safety.
- On Sunday, July 12, Ian Pascoe, 62, and Wayne Taylor died attempting to rescue two children from the North Sea at Seaton Carew. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene while the children were rescued by bystanders.

- Hartlepool Borough Council launched a comprehensive water safety review of the coastline, including Seaton Carew. A council spokesperson said, "The safety of residents and visitors will continue to be a key priority as this review is undertaken."
- Over 3,000 individuals backed a petition calling for additional lifeguards at the beach. Cleveland Fire Brigade warned the sea is "unpredictable and dangerous," urging the public to call 999 if someone struggles in the water.
