Kerry Coombes Named as Victim in Hoghton Level Crossing Collision
Police have launched a criminal investigation, and an eight-year-old girl remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition.
On Thursday, Kerry Coombes, 33, died after a train struck her car at a level crossing in Hoghton, Chorley. An eight-year-old girl travelling in the vehicle remains in critical but stable condition in hospital.
Lancashire County Council revealed Coombes worked as a social worker, with Jacqui Old, Executive Director of Education and Children's Services, describing her as a "much-valued member" of their team.
Following the launch of a criminal investigation, Detective Chief Inspector Paul Attwell described the incident as a "shocking and tragic incident" and urged the public not to speculate.
In a statement released on Friday, the family of Coombes said she was a "loving daughter, sister, partner and devoted mum who meant everything to us." They described her as having the "biggest heart."
