Tranquil Galaxy, Explosive Secret: Serene Spiral’s Supernova Surprise
A peaceful-looking spiral galaxy conceals the dramatic aftermath of a massive star’s violent death. Though it appears calm today, astronomers recently turned to Hubble’s sharp eyes to examine the lingering effects of a supernova that lit up its skies decades ago. At first glance, the spiral galaxy IC 758 looks calm and graceful. Captured in [...]
Hubble Captures the Breathtaking Barred Spiral Galaxy: IC 758
The NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope has captured a stunning new image of IC 758, a spiral galaxy located within the constellation Ursa Major. This Hubble image depicts IC 758, a barred spiral galaxy located roughly 60 million light years from Earth in the Ursa Major constellation. The colorful image is based on observations from Hubble’s [...] The post Hubble Captures the Breathtaking Barred Spiral Galaxy: IC 758 appeared first on Mondo News.

Close-up: Spiral Galaxy IC 758 in Ursa Major
Close-up: Spiral Galaxy IC 758 in Ursa Major | HubbleThis serene spiral galaxy hides a cataclysmic past. The galaxy IC 758 in this NASA/European Space Agency Hubble Space Telescope picture is situated 60 million light-years away in the constellation Ursa Major. In this Hubble image captured in 2023, IC 758 appears peaceful, its soft blue spiral arms curving gently around its hazy barred center. However, in 1999, astronomers spotted a powerful exp…
Hubble probes explosive end of massive star in spiral galaxy
New Delhi: The Hubble Space Telescope has captured an image of a barred spiral galaxy IC 758 at a distance of 60 million lightyears in the constellation of Ursa Major or the Great Bear. In 1999, the supernova designated as SN 1999bg exploded in the galaxy, which was the violent explosion marking the end of a star much more massive than the Sun. Astronomers do not know how massive this progenitor star was. The Hubble observations will be used to …
