Health Unit Confirms First Sign of West Nile Virus Activity in Windsor-Essex
Routine monitoring found one positive mosquito pool, and the health unit said no human cases have been identified this year.

- University of Toronto infectious diseases specialist Isaac Bogoch noted that detecting positive pools is typical for this season. "Its beautiful outside, so we should all definitely get outside and enjoy the sunshine," he said.
- Medical Officer Mehdi Aloosh urged residents to remove standing water around homes to prevent mosquito breeding, recommending insect repellents containing DEET or Icaridin and wearing light-coloured clothing.
- Across Ontario and Canada, public health units have reported positive mosquito pools recently, with 14 dead wild birds testing positive for the virus, including 13 in Ontario and one in Manitoba.
