Tottenham agree £52m for Brighton's van Hecke
Tottenham Hotspur agreed to a fixed £52m deal to sign Brighton defender Jan Paul Van Hecke, with personal terms expected to be finalized in the coming days.
Manager Roberto De Zerbi prioritized defensive reinforcements after Spurs conceded 122 goals across the last two Premier League seasons, narrowly avoiding relegation on the final day of the 2025-26 campaign.
Van Hecke made 131 appearances for Brighton after joining NAC Breda in 2020, becoming a regular under De Zerbi before arriving as the third summer signing alongside Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi.
At Tottenham, the defender will reunite with Netherlands teammate Micky Van de Ven, both part of the 2026 World Cup squad.
Brighton is accelerating their pursuit of Spurs centre-back Luka Vuskovic as a replacement, having had two bids rejected this month including a £35m offer.
Jan Paul van Hecke (26) will play for Tottenham Hotspur next season. The London club negotiated with his employer Brighton and Hove Albion over the past few weeks, who rejected the first offers. Brighton eventually agreed to a transfer fee of 52 million pounds, equivalent to 60 million euros.
