The Special Investigations Unit says Const. Andrew Lawson had reasonable grounds for arrest after a July 30 shooting left a 40-year-old man dead.
- On Wednesday, the Ontario Special Investigations Unit charged Toronto police Const. Andrew Lawson with manslaughter following a fatal shooting last year in a Niagara Falls hotel.
- A repeat offender parole enforcement squad had gone to the hotel to locate a man targeted by a Canada-wide parole revocation warrant on July 30, 2025.
- The SIU reported "an interaction" between officers and the 40-year-old man, during which one officer discharged his firearm, striking the man who was later pronounced dead in hospital.
- Toronto police suspended Lawson with pay under the Community Safety and Policing Act, and he is scheduled to appear in a St. Catharines court on May 6.
- Lawson faces one count of manslaughter and was released on an undertaking with conditions; the charge has not yet been tested in court.
