Toronto City Council recently passed a proposal to raise the annual salary of city council members from $137,537.40 to $170,588.60, a nearly 25% increase, or about $33,000 per person. This is the first time since 2006 that the salary increase has exceeded inflation adjustment, and it is expected to cost the city government about $957,000 this year.
