- The revelations add to scrutiny following Gonzales's 2024 affair with congressional aide Regina Santos-Aviles, who died by suicide in 2025. That relationship prompted backlash from House Republican leaders and led Gonzales to abandon his bid for a fourth term.
- Gonzales allegedly sent hundreds of messages requesting the aide 'squeeze my balls' and asking what she wore to bed. After she declined multiple times, he replied, '47 nos is about my limit,' according to the Express-News report.
- The former campaign director said she came forward after learning of Santos-Aviles's death, stating, 'This behavior needs to stop.' Brandon Herrera, who was in a runoff against Gonzales, is now the Republican nominee for Texas's 23rd Congressional District.
- Both the House Ethics Committee and the Office of Congressional Conduct are investigating Gonzales's conduct. He intends to serve out his term, which ends in January 2027, despite dropping his reelection bid last month.
