Over 100 years ago, I’m sure there were residents of East Toledo and Oregon who were vehemently opposed to the building of oil refineries near their homes, farms, and Maumee Bay. The same was probably true for Toledo residents when the Libbey Glass, Champion Spark Plug, and Willys Overland plants were built. They could be noisy, consume large amounts of energy and precious water, run operations 24/​7, and be viewed as an eyesore.
